The office of deacon (table waiter) was established in the New Testament. They were initially chosen to oversee the fair distribution of food to the growing number of needy widows. This enabled the apostles to "devote more to prayer and the ministry of the Word". We learn in Acts that they did more than "wait tables" as evidenced by the works of Stephen and Phillip. Today the primary expectation of the deacon is service - with service to our Lord Jesus Christ being first and foremost. The deacons of Hope Christian Church are involved in property maintenance, assisting in the needs of the congregation/community, preparation for special events and any other task assigned by the elders. Their primary arena is in material issues, not spiritual, although it is hard to separate the two.
Men who are currently serving as deacons of Hope Christian Church are:
• Vern Orndorff
• Dick Krumm
• Dave Dutenhoefer
• Rick Dauphin
• Steve Patterson
• Robert Seitler
Note: We will serve tables if needed.
Men's Activities
Study Groups
In today's fast paced world, it can be difficult to keep in touch with each other and our Lord.
Study Groups are one of the opportunities we provide to help us stay connected socially and spiritually.
Each meeting is a time of prayer, Bible study, and fellowship. A chance to reflect, regroup, and refocus.
Please feel free to join us!
Please check the church calendar for the different Bible Study groups.

Tabitha's Legacy
Mission Statement
To prayerfully create blankets and other articles (Hugs) for less fortunate children and adults in our community. To pray over these hugs and for the recipients in order to show the love of God through both the work of our hands and the prayers from our hearts.
Tabitha's Legacy is made up of two groups of women committed to serving our community. You may be either a Hand, a Heart, or both. Neither is more important than the other for without one the other is not as effective. Ecclesiastes 4:12b
Origin of the Name: The name originates from the story of Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas) who was a woman of great service in her community. (Acts 9:36-43)
Tabitha's Hands: A group of women dedicated to prayerfully create blankets (Hugs.) At Hope it includes other items that will help keep people warm such as lap robes, baby caps, shawls, slippers, scarves, etc. These Hugs can be sewn, quilted, tied, knitted, woven or crocheted and can be completed at home.
Tabitha's Hearts: A group of women dedicated to pray regularly for Tabitha's Hands and attend scheduled prayer meeting where we will pray that the work of our Hands will bless the recipients, ultimately showing God's love and care.
Each blanket or other "Hug" receives a tag which says: "Each stitch represents a stitch of love, a stitch of God's love for you. We in Tabitha's Legacy at Hope Christian Church have prayed diligently during the creation of our gifts, that the recipient of our gift would come to know the blessing of the Lord's peace and the love of Jesus."
The group meets on Wednesdays in the Fireside Room from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. For more information contact Sharon Crowley at 890-5157.
Seniors' Activities
Young At Heart
"Young at Heart" is a group of seniors meeting here at Hope Christian Church in the Fireside Room.
We have "adopted" our home bound group. We visit, phone and write to them regularly. They have some interesting, funny and sad stories to tell us.
We also take responsibility for sending flowers for the church to people that are hospitalized or have lost loved ones.
We meet on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. On the first Thursday of the month, we usually have a birthday cake and party. We always have a good time so we invite you to join us.
If you are "Young at Heart," contact Fay Coghlan, 770-2533, or LaRae McCarrell, 899-8575, for more information.
Senior Potluck
Class 101 - Discovering Christ and Church Membership
- This class is a four part study leading to an understand of who Jesus was and is. Also included is a study on how we become a Christian and the importance of faith and baptism in the process. It concludes with a discussion on the importance of committing to a specific local church as a tangible place where spiritual growth can be accomplished and where accountability in matters of faith can be practiced.
Class 201 - Discovering Spiritual Maturity - This class focuses on the four basic habits every Christian needs to develop inorder to grow to spiritual maturity. Those habit are (1) time spent in God's Word; (2) Time spent in prayer; (3) developing a habit of tithing (giving) to the work of the church; and (4) fellowship or spending time regularly with other believers. The class with equip the student with the skills necessary to begin these habits and explain the tools you will need to continue these habits. Completion of Class 101 is a prerequisite foundation to enrollment in Class 201.
Class 301 - Discovering my Ministry - This class is the third of HCC's four basic classes. Since these classes build on each other it is required that you first attend Class 101, Discovering Christ and Church Membership, and 201, Discovering Spiritual Maturity, before taking this class. We are convinced that you must first be committed to membership in a church family and committed to the spiritual habits for spiritual maturity before you are ready for ministry. Membership and Maturity are the foundations for Ministry. In this class, you will discover what the Bible says about ministry and spiritual gifts. You will also have the opportunity to discover what spiritual gift or gifts you have and where they can be used to serve Jesus and the local church.
Class 401 - Discovering My Life's Mission - Since each class builds upon the content of the previous study, 101, 201, and 301 must be taken before enrolling in this class. This class will lead to an understanding of what God's call upon my life involves deepening one’s commitment to Jesus Christ and defining a life mission of service and growth. It will help to answer the issue of total surrender to lifestyle of discipleship under Jesus.
